...to the first time I recognized I could draw took some searching!
I was born in South Africa and led an outdoor life in the sunshine - after school meant diving into the swimming pool, heading off horse riding, (obsessed until I fell off and broke my elbow!), building forts, climbing trees or roller skating!
Our family roots are in England so when we moved back there in my awkward teen years I turned to art as a solid companion. I spent hours drawing, all while listening to Bananarama and AHA on my Sony Walkman! (kid of the 70’s ;)
By the Summer of ‘92 (sounds cool!) with my developing skills, I felt enough confidence to pursue art and creativity further.
I completed a one year Foundation course at Cleveland College of Art and Design before going to the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside to attain a degree in Graphic Design. Being in and around the creative process every day cemented my direction!
I was thrilled to start working at a small, creative design studio in York, where original thought and creative innovation was always the priority. In 2006 I started a graphic design business www.northgraphicdesign.ca and have been working for myself since then.
... just a few years, through the busy years of getting married, travelling the world, having twins, emigrating to Canada and setting up a graphic design business, I decided to pick up my pencils, pens and paintbrushes again! After spending hours on a computer, as creative as that can be, I wanted to put marks on paper again.
Finding an artistic voice takes time and I've moved through that quietly and steadily these past couple of years, taking time to evolve it organically. I find great joy in capturing the natural world, to stop and really take in the details. I'm excited to keep sketching ideas, drawing concepts and searching for the perfect pencil sharpener!

With gratitude, I acknowledge that for thousands of years the peoples of the K’ómoks First Nation and its four clans Sathloot, Sasitla, Eiksan, and Puntledge, have walked gently on these unceded traditional territories where we now live, work and play.
